The Astronomer in the control room
Last week while observing at the Spacewatch telescopes I played around with the wifi connection between my new Canon 70D and my Nexus 7 tablet using the Canon EOS Remote app on the tablet. It allows live viewing on the tablet from the camera as well as some control over exposure and tripping the shutter remotely. Pay no attention to the tablet on my lap. This image was taken with my 24mm lens set to 1 second at f/16 (for maximum depth of field) and ISO 1600 in our 1.8-m control room. BTW, the guy in the chair is yours truly - luckily, I didn't crack the lens.

Hangin' with George
Last Friday afternoon, I played photographer at my sweeties school Halloween dance. While setting up, I took this self portrait (which one is me?). "George" is on the left - no, really. He was lit with some LEDs and said some scary things (that we couldn't really hear anyway with the music playing loudly in the next room). I used a 1 second exposure to capture the glowing eyes and both an on camera flash and remote triggered flash to light the subject(s). The lens was set at 22mm focal lengthw at f/6.3 at ISO 400.

Is that Tarzan?
No, it's just me, dropping into the water at Kipu Falls from a rope swing that hangs there. My brother-in-law took this shot of me flying through the air.....

Self portrait II
After looking at the photos of telescopes and astronomers in the Life magazine archives on Google, I was inspired to convert this self portrait taken one morning last week into a sepia toned B&W shot. This image was taken at 18mm focal length with an exposure of 0.6 seconds at f/8, ISO 400, cropped to nearly square format and converted to B&W and sepia toned in Picasa.

Self portrait, part I
Here's a self portrait I took one morning last week standing next to the 36 inch telescope. The image was made at 18mm focal length with an exposure of 1/2 second at f/8, ISO 400 with fill flash. The image is cropped to about 40% of the original frame.

See, I am 3 dimensional...
Here's an anaglyph self portrait I made the other night around sunset. On the ridge behind me are the WIYN telescope and the Kitt Peak 36 inch telescope which are too far away for stereo, but the boulder on the left and the guy in the orange jacket should stand out well. The original images were made with my stereo camera rig of 2-A570is cameras. Click on the title to visit the StereoPhotoViewer applet of this image.
