Misty sunrise

Here's a shot from early December on Kitt Peak, shortly after sunrise, looking back towards Tucson. You can see some morning fog over town around the mountains. You can even see Mount Graham in the distance between the Catalina Mountains and the Rincon Mountains on the left and right respectively around Tucson. This image was taken at 55mm focal length with an exposure of 1/800 seconds at f/5.6, ISO 400.

Accident scene

On my drive up the Kitt Peak road, I came across this scene. As I pulled to a halt near the minivan that lay on its side, I was afraid of what I might find inside. Was I the first on scene? I called out to any occupants as I approached the vehicle and then looked down into the vehicle from the passenger side window that was broken out. The vehicle was empty. I looked around from the back to be sure and then gave a sigh of relief. Hopefully the driver was ok and from the appearances of the cockpit area, with airbags deployed and the condition of the seats, it looks like the driver was well protected. This image was taken at 18mm focal length with an exposure of 1/60 seconds at f/3.5, ISO 800 with the on camera flash.

McHale Center crowd

It was a full crowd at McHale on Saturday afternoon with over 14,500. I counted about 8 Oregon Duck fans in the crowd (their green shirts stuck out amongst the mostly red and blue Arizona fans). This image was taken at 18mm focal length with an exposure of 1/250 seconds at f/3.5, ISO 800.

Chase Budinger hits a trey

Chase Budinger of the UofA Wildcat basketball team hits a three pointer during an 84-74 loss to Oregon. My friend Lyn lets me use an extra ticket about once a season, but unfortunately, it was for a tough loss to the Ducks this season..... This image was taken at 55mm focal length with an exposure of 1/160 seconds at f/5.6, ISO 800.

Fun with telephotos

Our friends dog looks sort of sad in this shot. After playing around with zooms and macros, I aimed my camera with telephoto across the room at the dog and managed to hold the camera steady for this 1/60 second exposure. The lens was set to 190mm focal length with an aperture at f/5.0, ISO 1600.

Shooting the photographer

Some fun with a flash and a camera, this is a picture of our fellow photoblogger & friend Tuugii on x-mas night. This shot used a first curtain flash and some zoom during the long exposure. The zoom started at 70mm and went out to 300mm during a 1.8 second exposure at f/11, ISO 100.

Thus quoth the Raven

This Common Raven just wants to make sure you to know that collecting petrified wood is prohibited. Amazingly, he sat on this sign making quite a racket despite numerous people, some with their pet dogs on leashes, walking past him on a nearby trail (some dogs even barking!). He was there long enough for me to get my camera back out of the car after I had stowed it away and change lenses so I could get the telephoto on to get a decent shot of him. It probably took me a minute or more to get organized, then I was able to slowly walk around him and snap 10 shots before my battery chose that moment to decide it was empty (my camera bag with a spare was back in the car....). This image was taken at 300mm focal length with an exposure of 1/180 seconds at f/8, ISO 400.
