Captain Cook landed here
Captain James Cook landed near here at the mouth of the Waimea River on Kaua'i in January 1778. The ocean is brown outside the river due to the flow of sediments down the river. The beach here is black sand due to the volcanic soil in the small harbor. A Russian fort called Fort Elizabeth is on the opposite side of the river just left of this image but would be hard to see due to the overgrowth of trees and other vegitation. This image was taken at 55mm focal length witha circular polarizer and an exposure of 1/500 seconds at f/5.6, ISO 400.
